Getting Started

1. Installation

Follow the steps listed below to create your website using this template.

1.1 Duplicate the template

To get started you need to duplicate the template into your own Notion workspace.
CLICK HERE to open the Notion page (open it in a new tab for ease) and then click Duplicate in the top right corner of the screen to add the page to your own workspace.

1.2 Create a Potion account

Head over to the Potion website to create your account.
Please note: you’ll need to upgrade to one of the paid plans to be able to apply this custom template.

1.3 Create your site

Click on the “Add New Site” button in the top right corner and fill in the fields to create your website:
  • Give your website a name.
  • Grab the link of the page you’ve duplicated in Step 1 (click on the Share button in the top right hand corner of the page to copy the link to your clipboard) and paste it in.
  • Pick a subdomain (you can then change this to your custom domain later).

1.4 Apply the custom template

Click on the “Edit Page HTML” button and go to the “Head” tab. Then paste the following snippet of code in the text box area and click on the “Update Preview” button and the “Save” button to save your changes.
<link href="https://julesvcode.github.io/minilio/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" />

2. Customisation

Before you can start editing your site with your own content you’ll need to follow the steps listed below:
PLEASE NOTE: when updating the pages with your own content (outside of the CMS) please make sure to replace the existing content with your own text/images instead of adding new blocks so it doesn’t affect the layout of the pages.

2.1 Font

Select “Roboto Mono” as the custom font within the “Page Settings” tab on your Potion Dashboard.

2.2 Page Headers:

On each page (home, projects, thoughts & contact) you’ll need to update the headers with your own photo and name:
  1. Replace photo and update the caption with the link to your home page
  1. Update the name and link it to the main Notion page

2.3 Thoughts template:

When creating a new thought (blog post) you’ll need to use the existing template so this needs to be updated once first so it’s then applied to all your new posts.
  1. Go to the CMS page
  1. Click on the arrow next to the “New” button
  1. Click on the 3 dots next to the “New Thought” and “Edit”:
    1. Replace photo and update the caption with the link to your home page
    2. Update name and link it to main Notion page
    3. Update the name in the footer

2.4 Using the CMS

Both projects and thoughts (blog posts) are powered by one same CMS so head to the CMS to manage them:

Add a new Project:
Once on the CMS page click on the “New” button:
  1. Enter the name of your project
  1. Select the Type: “Projects”
  1. Add a full year (E.g. 2023)
  1. Add a one liner about the project
  1. Add a link to the website for this project if there’s one
  1. Select if you want this project to be featured on the home page or not

Add a new Thought
Once on the CMS page click on the arrow next to the “New” button and select the “New Thought” template:
  1. Enter the name of your blog post
  1. Select the date you’re publishing your blog post
  1. Select if you want this project to be featured on the home page or not
  1. Then go to the body of the page and re-add the blog title and insert your text

PLEASE NOTE: the home page is customised to only display the Projects and Thoughts that have been marked as “Yes” for the Featured property, each in an ascending order.

2.5 Newsletter

The newsletter section is currently set up to click through to a sign up page powered by Tally but you can use your preferred service and just replace the link in this section

2.6 “Buy” widget

Scroll to the bottom of the page and delete the last block that says “Buy this template” to remove it from your website.
